Ok, the swan isn't exactly golden. This isn't some scene from Jason and the Argonauts. This is a lone swan making its way up the River Cam during the most amazing winters morning sunrise - a Christmas sunrise in fact. This weeks photo was taken on boxing day last year on a freezing festive morning. After a day of sitting around, eating and drinking too much I was craving some fresh air and the chance to capture some golden sunrise shots seemed too good to miss.
The shot was taken along the River Cam, just past the Mill Pond and Garden House Hotel (or Doubletree as its now know). The river is very high at this point and almost level with the bank and pavement alongside. The swan was making its way in the direction of Grantchester and looked for all the world like it literally owned the river. At the same moment, the sun was rising behind the nearby buildings and bathed the river (and the Swan) in golden sunlight.
Taken with a Canon 70D DSLR Camera and Sigma 18-250 Lens.
