Through the Fog

Horror writer Stephen King's, The Mist - A classic horror novel about a mystical fog that descends on a town and brings with it all manner of evil and well, horror. If anyone is wondering where I'm going with this, please bear with me. The idea of something coming out of the fog; faintly appearing from nothing has always sent shivers down my spine; just like the shark fin appearing in Jaws or the monster appearing in the background that the viewer can see but the eventual victim can't.

For me this image has that same eerie feel. That shape in the background looks like some ghostly boat coming through the mist into port. It is of course Kings College Chapel! This was taken on an extremely foggy and dank winter morning. I was originally aiming at the lamppost but noticed the shape behind it after taking the photo. For me it works because the lamp post is sharply in focus which initially draws your attention - then the Chapel looms into view behind it!

The only changes made to the image was to slightly bring out the highlights of the building with Lightroom. For me this is one of those images that speaks for itself. Nothing else to say about it!
